Shannon Harper receives grant from the 2022-2023 LAS Seed Grant for Social Sciences

Shannon Harper received $8,000 from the 2022-2023 LAS Seed Grant for Social Sciences for her project titled, “Examining Severe Intimate Partner Violence and Survival Strategies Among Women Survivors in Rural Iowa: A Mixed-Methods Approach.” The study will utilize mixed-methods (semi-structured interviews and domestic violence survey measures) to examine rural Iowa severe IPV survivors’ selection and use of survival strategies in violent relationships, and the ways in which they conceptualize the accessibility and helpfulness of those strategies within socially and geographically isolated rural areas. The study setting includes nine Iowa counties considered moderately or completely rural with populations comprised of 5% or more Hispanic/Latino/a or African American people, including Crawford, Franklin, Hamilton, Henry, Louisa, Plymouth, Sioux, Tama, and Wright
