On April 4 and 5, 2019, Monic Behnken, associate professor in the Department of Sociology and director of Leadership Studies, attended the Iowa Network for Women in Higher Education Women’s Leadership Conference.
The conference, with the 2019 theme of “Lifting as We Climb” was held and Reiman Gardens and hosted a variety of panels that focused on learning what paths and obstacles exist for women leaders and embracing leadership complexities while climbing the mountain that is academia.
Behnken was proud to attend and network with other women leaders at Iowa State University, Iowa State University President Wendy Wintersteen; associate dean for undergraduate programs, Ivy College of Business, Valentina Salotti; Marybeth Stalp, chair of the Department of Sociology at the University of Northern Iowa; and Sandra Looft, director of the Margaret Sloss Center for Women and Gender Equity.
While she gained a lot at the conference, Behnken plans to use the new information and skills to lift up others.
“This professional development will inform my mentoring of students and junior faculty at ISU.”
