Associate professor J. Arbuckle (co-principal investigator) along with an interdiscipinary team of researchers from agronomy, entomology and economics were awarded a $348,422 grant for their proposal of research titled, “Improving cereal rye cover crop BMPs to increase adoption of cover crops by Iowa farmers” by the Iowa Nutrient Research Center (INRC).
The INRC grant will fund the research project over two years, from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020. The INRC, established the the Iowa Board of Regents in 2013, pursues science-based approaches to areas that evaluate the performance of new and emerging nutrient management practices, and provide recommendations for implementing and developing new practices.
The research by Arbuckle and team will identify and address major barriers to cover crops adoption by Iowa farmers, with the ultimate goal of increasing use of cover crops.
