Bio

Professor Schweingruber’s research is concerned with the cultural and cognitive premises that guide social behavior in a variety of social settings, including formal organizations, social movements and political demonstrations. His research on political demonstrations includes systematic observation of demonstrations in Washington, D.C., analysis of media accounts of demonstrations and research on protest policing practices. His study of a door-to-door sales organization focuses on attempts to control geographically distant workers by changing the way they think. Professor Schweingruber’s other interests include the social construction of money, collective action, perception control theory and the social organization of weddings.
