Paul Lasley, professor and former chair of the Department of Sociology, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award on February 6, 2019 at the Annual Meeting of the Iowa Chapter of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA).

The award is given to an individual or company who has made outstanding and lifelong contributions to Iowa agriculture.

According to Jim Jensen, who presented Lasley with the award on behalf of the Iowa ASFMRA, Lasley has made such contributions.

“Dr. Lasley was selected because of his service through Iowa State University to Iowa agriculture through his written articles, periodic surveys of agriculture practices and opinions, his teaching at Iowa State University and his many public appearances at meetings discussing agricultural situations and needs of people involved in Iowa agriculture,” Jensen said. “Paul has the ability to size up a situation, discuss all sides and give guidance mixed in with humor while leaving people with good information to ponder when they return home.”
