Itzel Padron Zuniga, who is double majoring in Sociology and Women’s & Gender Studies, was awarded the Sociologists for Women in Society Undergraduate Social Action Award for 2016. Itzel was recognized for her campus activism advocating for a campus climate safe from sexual assault and rape culture. Sociologists for Women in Society is sociology’s largest organization dedicated to gender scholarship, and publishes the well-respected journal Gender & Society. The Undergraduate Social Action Award includes a $700 grant, registration, banquet fees waived for the annual meeting, and funding for additional travel expenses. The award is also accompanied by a plaque and the winner is honored at the meeting banquet.
