Bio

Dr. Stewart is a family demographer whose research focuses on gender, family diversity, and children and adults’ physical, social, and emotional health. She is author of several books including: On the Rocks: Straight Talk about Women and Drinking; Brave New Stepfamilies; Multicultural Stepfamilies (co-editor); Co-Sleeping: Parents, Children, and Musical Beds; and Marriages, Families, and Relationships (co-author). She has published articles on a range of topics (co-parenting, stepfamily laws and policies, stepchild adoption, women’s alcohol use, family stress, childhood obesity, food insecurity, women’s financial literacy) in leading peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Marriage and Families, Journal of Family Issues, Demography, and Journal of Gynecology and Women’s Health. She teaches courses on demography, gender and sexualities, and intimate relationships. Her research has been supported by grants from the NICHD, USDA, Joint Center for Poverty Research, and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
