Susan D. Stewart

Susan D. Stewart is a Professor of Sociology at Iowa State University. She received her Doctorate in Sociology from Bowling Green State University. Dr. Stewart is a family demographer whose research focuses on gender, structural diversity in families, family dynamics, and children and adults’ physical, social, and emotional health. Stewart is the author of Brave New Stepfamilies: Diverse Paths Toward Stepfamily Living; Marriages, Families, and Relationships (with Lamanna and Riedmann); and Co-Sleeping: Parents Children and Musical Beds. Her research has been supported by grants from the NICHD, USDA, Joint Center for Poverty Research, and the Annie E. Casey Foundation. She has published papers on a diverse array of topics including nonresident parent-child relationships, child support, childhood obesity, adoption, and women’s financial literacy.
